We came to see Charlie Musselwhite Friday night at the House of Blues and by sheer luck picked up the last of Seth Walker's set. This classic blues band, hailing from Austin, TX , puts on quite a show.
Gritty, edgy and with no frills whatsoever, they have the look and feel of a classic blues band, transporting the audience back to the speakeasy days of Old Chicago. The atmosphere of HOB's Cambridge Room added to the effect, as it's a small club with a low stage and dim lighting (great for Blues -- bad for photography) and many of us in the audience chose to sit on the floor due to the lack of seating (a weak point at House of Blues). This club would benefit from cocktail tables and chairs. Seth's vocals and guitar are the focus of the band, but when it's time for a keyboard solo break you're in for a treat as well. If you have the option to catch these guys live, don't miss them. I know I'll be looking for them in the future, as I'd like to hear more of their material.
